Friedensreich Hundertwasser was one of Austria's best-known 20th century artists, who also dabbled in architecture, attempting to translate his artistic style to buildings. The apartment building was his response to the growing number of drab, plain apartment houses that blanketed certain neighborhoods in Vienna.
